Active travel grants available for community groups in Scotland

For community councils and groups in Scotland looking ahead to their next project, now is a great time to apply to the grants currently available for projects that cover arts, active travel and the environment.

Active travel grants

ArtRoots Funding for the National Cycle Network in Scotland

Deadline: 15th October 2024 (preference given to applications submitted by 1st September 2024)

Grants of up to £6000 available to help community groups produce art projects along the National Cycle Network.

Who can apply?
This fund is for constituted community groups based in Scotland.ArtRoots will also consider applications from non-constituted groups, organisations and individuals.

What projects can be funded?
Previous projects have included performances, sculpture, murals, heritage signs and information boards to enhance neighbourhoods and encourage more people to explore their local areas by walking, wheeling and cycling.

Ian Findlay Path Fund (IFPF)

Deadline: Applications can be made throughout the year.

Grants of between £10,000 – £100,000 available (with 30% match funding required) for the improvement of local path networks in Scotland within and between communities, making it easier for people to choose to walk wheel or cycle for everyday journeys.

Who can apply?

  • Constituted community groups and clubs
  • Registered charities
  • Not-for-profit organisations or Community Interest Companies
  • Educational establishments
  • Community Councils and Community or Development Trusts
  • National Park Authorities

The fund is not available to individuals, sole traders, commercial companies or local authorities. The fund is only available to projects delivering in Scotland.

What projects can be funded?

Activities eligible for funding include:

  • Improving resilience of existing paths.
  • Creating new path links.
  • Removing barriers to make existing paths more accessible.
  • Improving safety and increasing path users’ confidence.
  • Developing detailed designs to help deliver the activities noted above.

Environment & community grants

Parks4Life fund to support Scottish green spaces

Deadline: 30th August 2024

Grants of between £500 and £1,500 available for park and greenspace groups in Scotland who are working to improve and bring life to their parks and green spaces.

Who can apply?
Community and Friends groups in Scotland.

What projects can be funded?

Funding could be used to help your group put on or expand an event to attract visitors to the park, skills training for your volunteers or something more practical such as a small planting scheme.
